Things to Do in Liverpool

Waterfront, Beatles, free museums, all walkable

Liverpool's visitor scene sits in a tight, walkable band: the Pier Head and Royal Albert Dock waterfront, the St George's Quarter along William Brown Street, the Cavern Quarter for Beatles history, and Hope Street in the Georgian Quarter. Free national museums carry much of it. Football and the river carry the rest.

Where it clusters

Almost everything a first visit wants sits within twenty minutes on foot. The waterfront runs from Royal Albert Dock to the Pier Head, then the city climbs to William Brown Street and Hope Street. Only Anfield, Aintree and the Beatles houses in the south need transport.

What costs nothing

The national museums and the Walker Art Gallery charge no admission, and neither do Central Library, the Bluecoat or Open Eye Gallery. Both cathedrals are free to enter. Note that the Maritime and Slavery museums remain closed for redevelopment, and Tate Liverpool is at Mann Island while its dock building is rebuilt.

Nights out and neighbourhoods

Ropewalks and the Baltic Triangle hold the independent bars, warehouse venues and street food. Hope Street is the theatre and concert end. Matchdays and Grand National week fill hotels early, so book well ahead.

Liverpool, asked.

Which museums in Liverpool are free?

The Museum of Liverpool, World Museum, Walker Art Gallery, Sudley House and the Victoria Gallery & Museum are all free, as are Liverpool Central Library and the Bluecoat. The Merseyside Maritime Museum and International Slavery Museum are closed for redevelopment, reported to reopen in 2028.

Can you do the Beatles sites in one day?

Yes, with planning. The Beatles Story at Royal Albert Dock and the Cavern Club on Mathew Street are a short walk apart in the centre. Strawberry Field is in south Liverpool, and the childhood homes are seen only on the National Trust's pre-booked minibus tour, so book that first.

How do people promote a show in Liverpool?

Mostly where audiences already are. Printed what's on guides, leaflets in venue foyers and box offices, and posters around Hope Street, Ropewalks and the waterfront still do a lot of the work, alongside listings sites and each venue's own mailing list.

Print in Liverpool, asked.

Who does leaflet distribution in Liverpool?

iDO does. We put more than 5 million print materials into circulation every month across 150,000 print points, which makes us the biggest distributor of print media in the UK. In Liverpool that means leaflets placed by hand across Royal Albert Dock and the Pier Head waterfront, William Brown Street / St George's Quarter and Hope Street and the Georgian Quarter, business by business, with every run GPS tracked.

Where can I get poster sites in Liverpool?

Poster sites in Liverpool run from premier sites, where you choose the outlets and the duration, through to neighbourhood boards, shop windows and venue point of sale. iDO places and photographs every one. A 4 sheet is 1016 by 1524mm, a 6 sheet is 1200 by 1800mm.

Who does brochure display in Liverpool?

iDO racks brochures across Liverpool in hotel foyers, visitor attractions, information points and transport hubs including Liverpool Lime Street railway station and Liverpool Central station. DL and A5 are the sizes that fit a standard rack. Stock is replenished on a cycle rather than dropped once, and each visit is photographed.

How much does print distribution in Liverpool cost?

Leaflet runs are quoted per thousand and racking is quoted per site per cycle. The figure moves with the catchment, the number of sites, the season and whether the drop is solus or shared. iDO quotes against your actual Liverpool catchment rather than a national rate card.

Can you reach arts venues and attractions in Liverpool?

Yes. Liverpool has well over 40 arts venues and attractions between its theatres, museums, galleries and heritage sites, concentrated around Royal Albert Dock and the Pier Head waterfront and William Brown Street / St George's Quarter. Print placed across them reaches people who are already out and already choosing what to do next.
