Things to Do in Cardiff

Arcades, waterfront, castle. All of it walkable.

Cardiff packs its visitor scene into two walkable clusters. The city centre holds the castle, the Victorian arcades off The Hayes and the Queen Street shops. Cardiff Bay, one stop from Queen Street, offers Mermaid Quay, the waterfront and the sports village at Olympian Drive. Most of it is free to wander.

Two clusters, one short hop

The centre runs from Cardiff Castle down St Mary Street to The Hayes, with the Victorian arcades threading between. Cardiff Bay sits two miles south, reached by the short shuttle from Queen Street. Walking between them takes about forty minutes.

What does Cardiff cost?

Less than you expect. The arcades, the parks and the barrage walk to Penarth cost nothing, and the national museums charge no entry. Budget instead for the castle, a stadium tour and a waterfront dinner.

When the calendar fills

Rugby internationals turn the city centre into one long crowd, and the music festival spreads across venues through October. Book beds early for match weekends. Midweek is quieter, and the arcades are better for it.

Cardiff, asked.

How do I get from Cardiff Central to Cardiff Bay?

Walk to Queen Street station and take the short Bute Street shuttle to Cardiff Bay, the main rail arrival for the waterfront. On foot it is roughly two miles down Lloyd George Avenue, about forty minutes. Buses run from Westgate Street and Central Square.

Which Cardiff museums are free?

National Museum Cardiff in Cathays Park and St Fagans National Museum of History both charge no entry, funded by Welsh Government. St Fagans parking is paid separately. The Museum of Cardiff in the Old Library was temporarily closed for leak repairs at the time of writing, so check before you go.

How do people promote a show in Cardiff?

Word travels through the venues themselves. Printed what's on guides, leaflets stacked in foyers and cafes, and posters around Womanby Street and Albany Road still reach audiences who are already out. Listings from Visit Cardiff and the venue's own mailing list do the rest.

Print in Cardiff, asked.

Who does leaflet distribution in Cardiff?

iDO does. We put more than 5 million print materials into circulation every month across 150,000 print points, which makes us the biggest distributor of print media in the UK. In Cardiff that means leaflets placed by hand across City centre and Castle Quarter, Cardiff Bay and Cathays Park civic centre, business by business, with every run GPS tracked.

Where can I get poster sites in Cardiff?

Poster sites in Cardiff run from premier sites, where you choose the outlets and the duration, through to neighbourhood boards, shop windows and venue point of sale. iDO places and photographs every one. A 4 sheet is 1016 by 1524mm, a 6 sheet is 1200 by 1800mm.

Who does brochure display in Cardiff?

iDO racks brochures across Cardiff in hotel foyers, visitor attractions, information points and transport hubs including Cardiff Central railway station and Cardiff Queen Street railway station. DL and A5 are the sizes that fit a standard rack. Stock is replenished on a cycle rather than dropped once, and each visit is photographed.

How much does print distribution in Cardiff cost?

Leaflet runs are quoted per thousand and racking is quoted per site per cycle. The figure moves with the catchment, the number of sites, the season and whether the drop is solus or shared. iDO quotes against your actual Cardiff catchment rather than a national rate card.

Can you reach arts venues and attractions in Cardiff?

Yes. Cardiff has well over 40 arts venues and attractions between its theatres, museums, galleries and heritage sites, concentrated around City centre and Castle Quarter and Cardiff Bay. Print placed across them reaches people who are already out and already choosing what to do next.

Promoting something in Cardiff?

We build audiences in Cardiff. In real life events, posters, leaflets and brochures, placed where people are already deciding what to do.
