Things to Do in Bristol

Harbour city, Georgian hills, street art everywhere.

Bristol's visitor scene sits in a tight ring around the Floating Harbour. Harbourside and Wapping Wharf carry the food and culture, Clifton holds the bridge and the Georgian terraces, Stokes Croft and Bedminster carry the street art, and Broadmead and Cabot Circus handle the shopping. Temple Meads leaves you fifteen minutes from the water.

Where does it all cluster?

Almost everything worth a weekend is within a harbour walk. The water links Temple Quarter, the Old City, Spike Island and the container quarter at Wapping Wharf. Clifton sits uphill from the rest, and is worth the climb.

What is free here?

A lot. The city museums, the cathedral, Brandon Hill and the Avon Gorge viewpoints cost nothing, and the street art in Bedminster and Stokes Croft is simply on the walls. Budget for the harbour attractions, not for the city itself.

Arriving and getting about

Temple Meads is the main station, Parkway serves the northern edge, and the airport bus runs through the night. Park and ride sites ring the city for drivers. Harbour ferries are slow, cheap and the nicest way to cross town.

Bristol, asked.

Can you visit Bristol without a car?

Easily. Temple Meads and the bus and coach station sit at the centre, the airport flyer runs around the clock, and harbour ferries link Temple Meads, the centre and Hotwells. Drivers arriving from the motorways can leave the car at Long Ashton, Portway or Brislington park and ride.

Where should I stay for the harbour and the theatres?

Broad Quay and College Green put you between the harbour, the Hippodrome and Park Street, so the Radisson Blu and the Marriott Royal suit theatre nights. For an early train, Redcliffe hotels such as Holland House are walkable to Temple Meads.

How do people promote a show in Bristol?

Audiences here still find things in print. Listings in what's on guides, leaflet racks in venue foyers, hotel lobbies and station concourses, and posters around Stokes Croft, King Street and North Street all do the work, alongside the venue's own mailing list.

Print in Bristol, asked.

Who does leaflet distribution in Bristol?

iDO does. We put more than 5 million print materials into circulation every month across 150,000 print points, which makes us the biggest distributor of print media in the UK. In Bristol that means leaflets placed by hand across Harbourside and Millennium Square, Bristol Dockyards and Spike Island and Clifton and Whiteladies Road, business by business, with every run GPS tracked.

Where can I get poster sites in Bristol?

Poster sites in Bristol run from premier sites, where you choose the outlets and the duration, through to neighbourhood boards, shop windows and venue point of sale. iDO places and photographs every one. A 4 sheet is 1016 by 1524mm, a 6 sheet is 1200 by 1800mm.

Who does brochure display in Bristol?

iDO racks brochures across Bristol in hotel foyers, visitor attractions, information points and transport hubs including Bristol Temple Meads railway station and Bristol Parkway railway station. DL and A5 are the sizes that fit a standard rack. Stock is replenished on a cycle rather than dropped once, and each visit is photographed.

How much does print distribution in Bristol cost?

Leaflet runs are quoted per thousand and racking is quoted per site per cycle. The figure moves with the catchment, the number of sites, the season and whether the drop is solus or shared. iDO quotes against your actual Bristol catchment rather than a national rate card.

Can you reach arts venues and attractions in Bristol?

Yes. Bristol has well over 50 arts venues and attractions between its theatres, museums, galleries and heritage sites, concentrated around Harbourside and Millennium Square and Bristol Dockyards and Spike Island. Print placed across them reaches people who are already out and already choosing what to do next.
